Why do computers break and what can you do?

Most of us rely on our computer for our businesses or day-to-day work. Whether you use your computer at home or office, it is one of the most important devices we can’t do without. However, computers can break down because they are infallible. In fact, most people experience computer
breakdown once or twice a year.

While most of the breakdowns can be easily fixed, some can be serious to the extent of damaging your computer and causing you to buy a new computer. So why do computers break?

Why do computers break?

Many things can cause your computer to break. From the age of your computer, virus, power surge,
hard drive failure to physical damage, several things can cause your computer to break. Here is why
your computer breaks:

#1. Age

Over time, your computer will continue to get weaker because of age. Its moving parts like mechanical hard drive and fans are bound to get tired over time. Some computers can work efficiently for a decade while others will not even reach their warranty before they break. It means
quality plays a great role when it comes to the efficiency of your computer.

#2. Physical problems

The performance of your computer may reduce as a result of physical issues. When your computer has physical problems, it can break. Here are the physical problems you should be wary of:

  • Dust: If your computer designs feature a fan as a cooling element, then you should monitor it because dust gets everywhere in your computer through it. The function of the fan is to bring in cool air and blow out hot air. In the process of cooling the system, dust comes in and gets stuck in different parts of the system. When it coats circuit boards, it causes them to overheat. Dust can also cause fans to spin slower and cause the PC to overheat.
  • Failed solder joints: As the computer components heat and cool over time, the solder connections may become weak. The problem is not easy to repair and it is not even easy to find the faulty solder point.
  • Thermal paste: The thermal compound between the elements that get hot and the heatsinks that cool them may crack, dry out and stop providing good heat condition from the chip to the heatsink. This can cause more overheating.
  • Power problems

#3. Software problems

  • Malware, virus, toolbars and other malicious stuff can cause your computer to break. Except you have the best protection on your computer, there are times you will click on something you think is nice but it’s instead something else. When your computer is infected and you fail to get rid of the virus or malware, it can cause your computer to break.
  • Updates of software can also cause your PC to break because they tend to place a higher demand on your system with their new features. So when the software gets more demanding and you are yet to change your hardware, your computer can become slower and eventually breaks.

#4. Hard drive failure

Your data is stored on the hard drive, so heat, power surge, age, moisture and other things can cause it to fail. If it fails, you can lose your data.
